So why Oedipus Lex and does the world need another blog?
Let me begin by pointing out that I have no desire to marry my mother. However the troubled king appealed to me in a few ways. Firstly, I can relate to the tragedy. I haven’t killed my father yet but my career to date has been interesting and mostly woeful. Secondly, I’m a positivist by persuasion and hold no truck with this natural law malarkey. Finally, the classical imagery appealed to my pretentious side. I am aware that Oedipus is Greek and that Lex is Latin.
I’m assuming, but not promising, that this log will be based on my life as a mature but not that mature student studying law with a view to joining the bar. I come to law by way of the army and my current job in an investment bank (although certainly not a banker). No the world probably doesn’t need another student blog. I am, however, hoping this will be more than just the ramblings of an embittered late starter.
I have already warned you I am a little pretentious. I’m also slightly opinionated and prone to post while under the influence of a decent red.
My interests, should you care, are law, cricket and decent claret. I can’t generally afford decent claret but that does not stop me being interested in it.
It should be noted that Oedipus Lex is the product of an over active yet mostly under employed imagination. While the events are based on fact, the comment is very much belonging to the author’s alter-ego and he can be a little caustic at times.
